A Design Film Festival (Dries Van Noten)

Yesterday, 20 October 2017 we, a Raffles fashion student need to watch a movie of Belgian designer named Dries Van Noten. At the first, I didn't want to come because the movie is playing in the night. Lately, I feel curious and my friend also asks me to go together so I decided to go.

Dries was born in Antwerp in 1958. As the third generation from tailor family, he entered the fashion design course of Antwerp’s Royal Academy, when he was 18 years old. After he graduating he began to freelance as a consultant designer before starting his own collection of menswear in 1986. Immediately he got a positive reaction with orders placed by prestigious customers like Barneys New York, Pauw in Amsterdam and Whistles in London. In September of the same year Dries opened a tiny eponymous boutique in Antwerp’s gallery.

Since from the first time Dries as presented collections for women and men for Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter each year. In 2004 he celebrated his 50th fashion show, the idea of this fashion show is very interesting. He invited 500 guests seated at a table that later became the catwalk for the women presenting the collection. He also held his 100th Fashion show in last March.

This movie shows his beautiful home and studio in Antwerp to the backstage of his show at Paris Fashion Week, offering insights from the designer, his team, and his career journey. He is an Italian designer that based on Belgium.

Honestly, at the first, I don't even know how is Dries Van Noten, but after I watch his movie I change my mind. I became like his collection and his personality. For me, he is very lovely designer that very nice and calm but also prestigious. Not only his personality but I also impressed with his collection. I like how he choose a pattern and playing in the colour combination that I never think that it could match.
